Years ago, just when we were about to get married – we wondered what wedding song(s) would we sing at our wedding. At the time, on the radio, the hit song was “The Closer I Get To You” by Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack. Phil had the idea to exchange some of the words to make it a Christian Wedding Song.
Christian Wedding Songs from Phil and Brenda Nicholas
Everyone liked the song so, that we started singing it in concert. Afterwards back at the product table, people would zoom back and say…”where’s that “love song”? I want to buy that!” – Well – we only had one release (“Tell The World”) We hadn’t recorded that song yet – but when we recorded our second album, (after getting permission to change the words) we sure put that Christian wedding song on there….and the rest, as they say is history.
That song had a lot to do with launching our career – so much till we became known as the “sweethearts of gospel”. So we would put one love song on each release. Now some 12 releases down the road we have continued to remember that constituency of folks who love those Christian wedding songs and songs for the Christian marriage.
We have now released all those wedding songs on a compilation CD called “Classic Love Songs of Nicholas” along with a companion CD called “Our Love (Marriage Enrichment).
